Copycat Dunkin’ Vanilla Chai Mix
This Vanilla Chai Mix is one of my favorite homemade gifts for the holidays. It smells amazing and closely mimics the flavor of Dunkin’s Vanilla Chai. Keep a jar in the pantry for quick chai lattes anytime — it’s cheaper and faster than a drive-thru run.

How to Make Vanilla Chai Mix from Scratch
Making the mix is simple. Add all dry ingredients to a food processor or high-powered blender and pulse until everything becomes a fine, uniform powder. Transfer the finished mix to an airtight container and store in a cool, dry place.
- I use non-fat instant dry milk powder for a creamy base.
- Powdered non-dairy creamer works well to add richness; a French vanilla flavored creamer deepens the vanilla note.
- Unsweetened instant tea (such as instant black tea) provides the tea flavor without extra liquid.
- Substitute a granulated sweetener like Splenda if you prefer a sugar-free option.
- To prepare a latte: combine 2 tablespoons of mix with 1 cup of hot water or your choice of milk. Stir or froth for a creamier texture.
- To make a Dirty Chai: add one or two shots of espresso for a caffeinated boost.

Easy Homemade Holiday Food Gift
This mix is ideal for gifting. It stores well and makes multiple jars for friends and family. Package it in small glass jars with a ribbon and include a tag with instructions: “Use 2 tablespoons per 1 cup hot water or milk.”
- This recipe yields about 7 cups of mix—enough for 7–8 half-pint jars, depending on jar size.
- If you’re not gifting, keep the mix in an airtight container and use it whenever you want a quick chai latte at home.

Equipment
-
Food Processor
-
Blender
Ingredients
- 1 cup instant non-fat dry milk powder
- 1 cup powdered non-dairy creamer
- 1 cup sugar-free French vanilla powdered non-dairy creamer
- 2½ cups sugar
- 1½ cups unsweetened instant tea
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground cloves
- 1 tsp cardamom
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp allspice
- ¼ tsp white pepper
Instructions
-
Place all ingredients in the bowl of a food processor or large blender. Blend until the mixture is a fine powder.
-
Store the mix in an airtight container.
-
To make a chai latte, combine 2 tablespoons of mix with 1 cup of hot water or milk. Stir well and enjoy.
Notes
- I buy non-fat dry milk powder at major grocery stores; store brands work fine.
- Powdered creamers such as Coffee Mate add a smooth richness.
- Use a strong instant black tea for best chai notes (Lipton instant tea works well).
- Substitute your preferred granulated sweetener for sugar if desired.
- Mix can be combined with hot water or warmed milk — 2 tablespoons per 1 cup beverage is a good guideline.
- For a Dirty Chai, add 1–2 shots of espresso.
