Baked French Fries

I’m a sucker for a good side dish. I rotate several favorites, but homemade french fries are always a hit with my family. My kids practically shout “Fries!!!!!” whenever they’re on the menu — and that enthusiasm is well deserved.
This recipe was born out of a last-minute burger night when I realized I’d forgotten the planned side. Potatoes were waiting in the pantry, so I decided to turn them into something special. To make these fries stand out from regular roasted potatoes, I focused on getting them extra crispy.
I increased the oven temperature, cut the potatoes into even sticks, and tossed them with olive oil and seasoning salt. Simple steps, and about an hour later we were enjoying burgers with the crispiest oven fries I’ve made.

Tips for making oven-baked french fries
- Cut potatoes to uniform size so they cook evenly.
- I cut my fries into sticks about ½ inch thick. You can go thinner or thicker—just adjust the cooking time and watch them closely.
- The secret to crispy fries is high heat. A 450°F oven creates a crisp exterior and tender interior.
- Season however you like. I use seasoning salt for simplicity, but feel free to experiment with garlic powder, smoked paprika, or fresh herbs.
